Oilers re-claim LBA title

The Liberia Petroleum Refining Company or LPRC Sensational Oilers on Sunday, 16 April re-claimed the Liberia Basketball Association First Division trophy after a spectacular victory over defending Champions Mighty Barrolle on Monday at the Sports Commission on Broad Street.


The game brought together hundreds of basketball lovers at the open air Sports Commission, where Mighty Barrolle suffered 3 games to 2. The Oilers becomes the 2017 LBA Basketball Champion following the victory that came at the jam packed Sports Commission. LPRC Oilers battled Mighty Barrolle in the last game of the tough LBA best out five series to lift the trophy on Monday night.

The Sensational Oilers has won four games of five in the Liberian basketball association championship and has represent Liberia out of the country in international basketball tournament. The championship trophy was presented to LPRC Managing Director Mr. Sumo Kupee. Receiving the trophy, Mr. Kupee thanked the team for getting back the championship that had previously been taken away by Barroller in the basketball national league.

Mr. Kupee also the Oilers’ participation in FIBA Regional Qualifying tournament that is expected to commence soon. The match began with intense pressure being mounted from both sides, but the “Oil Boys” proved supremacy over the ‘Rollers’, salvaging the trophy with a 73-70 victory.

Meanwhile in the female division, Timberwolves won Desert Ladies 56 points against 52 and snatched away the trophy that had been held by K-Delta in the last five seasons
