Oliver Makor Fades

One of Liberia’s best defensive and ball-winning midfielders, Oliver Makor, known in the country as the “machine man” has faded out of the national team since the arrival of current head coach Bicskei.

Makor, 37,  was a full member of  “George Weah 11” ( the previous Lone Star team) that made it to the Mali 2002 African Nations Cup, failing to progress to the quarter finals after they drew with Mali 1-1, lost to Nigeria 2-1 and also drew their last group match with Algeria 2-2.

With more than three active and youthful defensive midfielders surfacing-Theo Weeks , Ben Teekloh and local energy man Michael Jaesue of LISCR FC. Makor  is well experienced as a defensive midfielder, playing for local Black Star in 1991-1992, and Julius Bergers Football Club in Nigeria for one season.

After experiencing his first international club career, the midfielder secured a deal to Cameroonian side Conan Yaounde FC in 1994 and then got an attraction from France where he managed to sign his first European club contract for French side Grenoble FC after he signed two seasons with the club in 1994-1996.

Oliver Makor’s contract ended at Grenoble Fc, but refused to renew that deal due to his planned move to French club Tour FC , where he played another one season from 1996-97.  Oliver Makor spent another two seasons at his new club Limoges Football Club from 1997-97.

The 37 year old Liberian midfielder completed his stay in France when his season ended in 1999 at Limoges Football Club. He moved to Greek side Proodeftiki F.C. in 1999, where he managed to play 43 games netting 13 goals.

In 2001, Oliver secured a loan deal with Egaleo FC , where he appeared in 10 matches for the club without netting home a  goal in a season. Because of his inability to play in most league games for Egaleo FC, the midfielder left the club and settled with lonikos FC in 2002, where he played for nearly a decade appearing in 164 matches scoring 43goals.

In 2010, he was transferred to Indonesian premier league side Persija Jakarta FC. Many fans across Liberia still feel that he has something to offer the Lone Star, but his age is the issue to consider.
