Police officer gets 20yrs. jail for rape

Police in Gbarnga, Bong County have sentenced 40-year-old Officer Jonathan Kolenky to 20 years in prison for raping a 13-year-old girl.

The incident occurred in November 2016 after the victim had gone to the police deport in Gbarnga to file a complaint against her mother, who threatened to beat her. Sources at the C.B. Dunbar Maternity Hospital in Gbarnga where the minor was taken for medical checkup hinted the Ninth Judicial Circuit that she suffered statutory rape.

Officer Jonathan Kolenky who had repeatedly denied the act since 2016 later admitted to the commission of the crime and pleaded for mercy as the verdict was brought down over the weekend.

The court also established that the act contravenes Section 14.70 of the New Penal Code of Liberia and the peace and dignity of the Republic. The convict is currently spending his terms at the already overcrowded Gbarnga Central Prison.
