Police vow to fight rape, sexual violence

The Commissioner of Police Gregory Coleman, has stressed that the Liberia National Police will continue to fight sexual violence and rape in the society, particularly among women and children.

Speaking with reporters recently at the Forum for Democratic Reform (FDR) Commissioner Coleman said anyone caught in sexual violence and rape will face the law.

Deputizing for Police Director Chris Massaquoi at the Forum for Democratic Reform in Monrovia, he said the police will do everything necessary in collaboration with the judiciary in making sure rape victims get justice.

He said authorities of the LNP submitted a budget of US$40 million to the Legislature to purchase new uniforms and other important materials that would equip the police force for effective operation, but the Legislature did not act accordingly since the submission.

Commissioner Coleman said the LNP will strengthen its community policing programs in various communities to help in fighting crimes and saving lives.

Meanwhile, the Forum for Democratic Reform has honored Police Director Massaquoi as Best Law Enforcer in Liberia and presented him a certificate and an African costume (kante with a hat).
