Pres. Sirleaf snubs House

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has snubbed members of the House of Representatives by not showing up Monday for a meeting scheduled with Speaker Alex Tyler, leadership of the House and some members of the Liberian Senate.

All were set Monday, July 5, 2015 for the appearance to the leadership of the House of Representatives and some influential members of the Liberian Senate, but to the surprise of many, the President failed to show up for the meeting.

The House of Representatives had summoned the President to give reason why she should not be held in constitutional contempt after she instructed Education Minister, George Werner, to ignore mandate of the House on the closure of schools by July 31.

The Executive Mansion had written, informing the lawmakers President Sirleaf would appear to meet with the leadership headed by Alex Tyler, but after delay, the House’s leadership was informed that the President had visiting business delegation from the European Union after which she will travel overseas and return home over the weekend.

Briefing reporters on President’s excuse, the House Statutory Committee Chairman on Executive, George Blamoh Wesseh, said President Sirleaf had written the Speaker, seeking for postponement of the meeting. By E. J. Nathaniel Daygbor – Editing by Jonathan Browne
