The President of of Liberia, Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, has sent a message of congratulations to the Government and People of the Russian Federation on the historic occasion commemorating Russia Day.
The Foreign Ministry in Monrovia said in her message to H.E. President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, President Sirleaf extended warmest felicitations to the Government and People of the Russian Federal on behalf of the Government and People of the Liberia and in her own name.
The Liberian leader expressed confidence that the cordial ties of friendship and cooperation subsisting between Liberia and Russia will be further renewed and strengthened as both countries explore opportunities mutually rewarding.
The Foreign Ministry further quoted the President as recallig that it was with happiness that Liberia received in Monrovia in March 2015, H.E. Dmitry Suslov, Russian Ambassador accredited to Liberia during the period when Liberia was still plagued by the Ebola virus disease, she noted a demonstration of strong ties between the two sisterly countries.
She then applauded the Government and People of Russia for the immense contribution to the fight against the Ebola virus epidemic.
“As a result of your support and other contributors from the international community, the World Health Organization WHO, on May 9, 2015, declared Liberia free from Ebola”, the President noted. -Press Statement
