Public Works Ministry launches FLOW campaign

The Ministry of Public Works has launched a FLOW campaign to repair all water points in the country under the theme, “For the Love of Water of FLOW”. Speaking Tuesday at the Ministry of Public Works in Monrovia, the Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Community Services, Jackson J. Paye, said the campaign is intended to repair hand pumps in various communities and make sure they are functional again, adding the campaign will also institute the hand washing systems at these communities through training followed by distribution of chlorine tablets and leaflets on hand washing.

He said for the past times, the ministry had noticed 50 percent of the hand pumps in communities have broken down, and residents were suffering to get safe drinking water. Minister Paye the campaign is starting in Montserrado County, and will last for a month after which it will be extended to other counties.

He said during the campaign, major activities will be carried out in the communities, including engaging community residents, assessing hand pumps, and distributing chlorines, among others. He the ministry would set up a call center for residents to alert whenever there is problem with the hand pumps so they can be quickly repaired.

The deputy minister also disclosed plan to strengthen community wash teams to help protect these hand pumps from criminals, particularly at night. By Bridgett Milton-Edited by Jonathan Browne
