PUL to celebrate Day to end Impunity

The Press Union of Liberia in partnership with the Center for Media Studies & Peace Building (CEMESP) and other media groups will commemorate the 2nd International Day to end Impunity for Crimes against Journalists on Monday.

According to a press release, the celebration begins on November 2, with a campaign to strengthen civic and Legislative actions that would hasten the passage of laws that guarantee improved space and safety for media in Liberia. The observance in Liberia seeks to bring together civic activists, journalists and lawmakers to sign a commitment to curb impunity against journalists and the wider range of crimes within the society.

It will also highlight outstanding legislative concerns that have bedeviled the media space in Liberia. The ‘International Day to End Impunity against Journalists’ (IDEI) is an outgrowth of United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/68/168, adopted at its 68th session in 2013, which urges Member States to implement definite measures countering the present culture of impunity facing journalists and respond to statements and petitions.Press Release
