PYJ Presidency Opposed, but..

A Liberian, based in the United States, has openly criticized those who believed that Nimba County Senator and former warlord Prince Y. Johnson is popular outside the County and has a chance of becoming President of Liberia.

“To become carried away, you must be mad thinking that Prince Johnson is popular outside Nimba County and has a chance of becoming a President; just celebrate your Nimba victory and stop praising this War Criminal and comparing him with Senator-elect George Weah, Who is really well respected across the country,” said Tony Leeway, Chairman of the ‘Political Strategy and Propaganda’ committee of the Diaspora arm of National Union for Democratic Progress or NUDP,In a statement issued in Monrovia.

Mr. Leeway described Senator Johnson as a lunatic and a murderer that should be in The Hague, as far as the rest of Liberia is concerned, emphasizing that Senator Johnson will not be President, but one day face a war crimes judgment in the future, if he survives that long.

In the statement, the U.S-based NUDP Executive, however, noted that based on the results of the just-ended special senatorial race, it is clear that the two most popular politicians in Liberia today are Senators- Elect George Manneh Weah and Prince Yormie Johnson, stressing that these two men would play very key roles in the 1017 presidential election, if they play their political cards right.

According to Leeway’s statement, as low as the turnout was, as reported in the 15 political subdivisions due to the scare of Ebola, ‘PYJ’ and Weah account for over half of the electorates in the elections.

“Most importantly, these two candidates are well loved by their constituents, and did not use money as inducement to influence votes.

I will openly suggest that based on the sentiments of Liberians as expressed in this electoral process, handlers of the two most popular politicians and key political entities should begin the process of consultations to plan for 2017,” the article noted.

Mr. Leeway’s suggestion contradicts his initial attributions made to Senator Johnson as lunatic and a murderer that should be in The Hague, as far as the rest of Liberia was concerned.

But efforts by our team of reporters to reach Senator Prince Johnson for his reaction to Leeway’s comments were unsuccessful as he was said to be his kinsmen, politicians and friends who had gone to his residence to greet and congratulate him for his performance in Nimba County in the just-ended Senatorial election, following condemnations by some Bimba Lawmakers, including Representative Mentonakay Tingba that he would not have won because he was unpopular in the county.
