Report from Nimba County says Senator Prince Y. Johnson’s Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction or MDR party is requesting US$100 from those wanting to become executive members of the party.
A representative aspirant for District# 8 in Nimba County alleges Senator Johnson himself was making such request. Speaking to our Nimba County correspondent, Mr. Saye Mianah said the MDR was requesting all-would be members to pay said amount in order to become bonafide members.
But some aggrieved citizens of district#8 accused Mr. Mianah of commercializing his movement by collecting 20 Liberian Dollars each from them to accept them into the movement. He launched the “Friends of Saye Mianah” recently in Flumpa, Nimba where he and his office staff allegedly collected 20LD each from citizens before admitting them into the movement.
It is not clear how many membership ID cards were printed and brought into the district, but Mr. Mianah noted that those who paid said amount were not forced. The aspirant instead accused Senator Prince Johnson of demanding US$100 from those wanting to join his party.
When contacted, the secretary general of the MDR Wilfred Bangura denied the claim, but confirmed the party received US$100 from Mr. Saye Mianah in order to become an executive member, and not for joining the party. Bangura said becoming a member of the MDR is free with no fund required.
