WEIL provides training on leadership, ethics and business

As part of effort to enhance women empowerment in Liberia, a non-governmental organization Women’s Empowerment Initiative of Liberia or WEIL has embarked on a five-day intensive training for women from various backgrounds.

The training, which is currently being implemented at a youth center in Kakata, Margibi County with about 20 participants, is aimed at imparting in women leadership, ethics and business skills, among others.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, 6 February at the training ground in kakata, the Executive Director of WEIL Madam Eleanor K. Womba said, the target is to reach about 20 women leaders from community-based organizations or CBOs, non-governmental organization, and civil society organizations, respectively.

According to her, there are so many packages concerning leadership, business and ethics that the participants are expected to benefit from during the interactive forum, adding that they are from across Margibi.

She noted that the training which has earlier been implemented in Grand Bassa, was prompted by the enthusiasm to impact lives of women in the country with knowledge they acquired from Washington, D.C. in the United States and South Africa during the Global Women in Management Training.

Madam Womba said WEIL was founded by seven women from various organizations in Liberia. She said returning home, they saw the necessity to not just sit and allow their knowledge go in vain, something that moved them to think about empowering other women.

According to her, the project is under the sponsorship of ExxonMobil-Liberia, which has provided them grant twice to carry on the training in both Margibi and Grand Bassa Counties.
She told reporters that WEIl hopes to achieve women going to implement what they learned so as to impact their various groups and communities they come from.

She called on other NOGs, philanthropists and well-meaning Liberians to emulate the gesture from ExxonMobil-Liberia in enhancing their work. Meanwhile, the WEIL executive director has lauded ExxonMobil-Liberia for the sponsorship, stressing that their move to promote women development in Liberia deserves commendation from everyone.
