Rep. Dopoh wants budgetary allotment for River Gee vocational school
By Bridgett Milton
The Chairman of River Gee County Legislative Caucus Representative Francis S. Dopoh has written the House of Representatives requesting for a budgetary appropriation to the tune of US$300,000.00 to begin the effective operation of the River Gee Vocational and Technical Institute.
According to the River Gee County Electoral District #3 Representative, the River Gee Vocational and Technical Training Institute (RGVTI) was enacted by the 54th Legislature, approved by President George Manneh Weah, and published into handbill on April 14, 2020, but it has not received any budgetary allotment for its operation.
He said this initial appropriation will jump-start the physical existence of this technical institute that is expected to provide basic technical and professional skills for hundreds of young people who cannot make it to Tubman University in Maryland County each year, or students who drop out of high school.
He said students are in their numbers leaving River Gee county to come to Monrovia and other urban areas, seeking basic skills and technical training, thus depopulating the county.
The River Gee lawmaker noted that this requested appropriation will demonstrate the government’s support to education in River Gee County and will serve as a seed fund in attracting support from their citizens and partners.
