Rep. Dopoh wants Labor boss invited

Rivergee County District#3 Representative Francis S. Dopoh, is calling on the plenary of the House of Representatives to invite the Minister of Labor to explain why full implementation of the Decent Work Act is yet to be implemented thru a comprehensive framework.

Rep. Dopoh says since the publication of the Decent Work Act of 2015, it would surprise to learn that Chapters 4 and 5 of the law are yet to be implemented, explaining that these chapters call for the establishment of a National Tripartite Council and Minimal Wage Board, respectively.

The Rivergee lawmaker says the wisdom of the framers of the law did not intent to have an individual judgment on labor issues, as is being practiced today, but to have a functioning team of subject matter experts in deciding labor matters.

Rep. Dopoh raises the concern thru a communication to Speaker Bhofa Chambers. “Hon. Speaker, Deputy Speaker, distinguished colleagues, in like of the concerns raised, I am kindly requesting plenary to invite the Minister of Labor to show cause as to why full implementation of the Decent Work act is yet to occur, and to provide us a comprehensive framework of its implementation”, he asks.

He warns that failure to have those institutions established would not only perpetuate the level of instability in the labor market, but also have serious revenue consequences.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has forwarded the communication to its committee on Labor, Ways, Means and Finance to report in two weeks.
