Rep. Seboe wants APM Terminals, BIVAC invited

Montserrado County Electoral District #16 Rep. Dixon W. Seboe is calling on the House of Representatives to invite APM Terminals and BIVAC to show reason(s) for their alleged refusal to accept Liberian Dollars for transaction purposes as mandated by the Committee on Banking and Currency since March 12, 2018.

Rep. Seboe who Chairs the House’s Committee on Banking and Currency says Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), APM Terminals and BIVAC were mandated in a with the committee on Banking and Currency on Monday, 12 March.

In that meeting, he says the institutions were mandated to accept Liberian Dollars for transactional purposes, but they have refused to adhere to the mandate of the joint committee.

He says it shows blatant disregard to said mandate and disrespect to the House of Representatives, adding that the Liberian Dollar is a legal tender in the country.
He says if something is a legal tender, it is by law and it should be used for transaction. Rep. Seboe notes that if any one refuses to accept it for transaction propose, it means that person has just violated what they have said in the law.

The Montserrado County lawmaker stresses that it is important that no institution complains that the legal tender here cannot be accepted. He says if businesses import goods in US Dollars, sell in Liberian Dollars and they are forced to get US dollars before they can do their transactions, it will also mean that they would be compelled to do anything to get the US dollars. Meanwhile the leadership of the House of Representatives was mandated to look into the matter.
