Repented thief reflects on his past

Edwin William, alias “50”, once a notorious criminal or ‘zogo’ in Weala, Margibi County claims he’s a completely changed man, and describes the habit of stealing people’s properties as complete foolishness.

His luck ran off recently while plying his trade when he was chopped on his shoulders with a machete during night hours in Weala, sustaining deep cut that left him nearly dead.

Speaking to reporters recently in Kolleh Town, District#5 Margibi County Edwin said the life of a ‘zogo’ is degrading and devastating, saying, people in the society always see you as less important.

According to him, a thief runs the risk of dying at any time, as no one easily accepts a criminal unless that person himself is engaged in similar act. He declared that he has now become a changed individual, and is currently involved in farming activities, adding that he was thankful to God Almighty for his life.
Edwin vowed that he wants to live rest of life for God.

He narrated that following the counter-attack by some unidentified residents that nearly took his life, he was taken to his village by family members for herbal medication, which enabled him to survive.

Edwin noted that living as a ‘zogo’ is completely a foolishness that no one person should think about, and called on those of his colleagues still going to homes at night and day to steal desist from such lifestyle.

According to him, almost everyone hated him in Weala District because of the stealing habit he had, which caused serious embarrassment and distressed to many persons. The repented criminal said he knows who attacked and deeply wounded him on that fateful night but holds nothing against them. The 28 years old is a high school dropped out, who wants to return to school to continue his education sojourn.
