Retirees sue Cuttington University

16 retired employees of Cuttington University (CU) in Suakoko, Bong County have complained the University to the Region Three Labor Law Court in Gbarnga, Bong County for alleged unfair labor practice.

The aggrieved retirees are claiming in a complaint filed before the court that the University retired them in 2017 without their appropriate benefits after serving the University for over nine years and eight months.

The 16 former employees say most of them had not reached the retirement age of 65 or 25 years of continuous service when they were retired. According to them, the University’s action to ignore the payment of their benefits after retirement for more than three months has prompted their decision to take the institution to court.

The University’s letter to the 16 retired employees, copy of which is in the possession of our Bong County Correspondent only requested the complainants to turn over properties or equipment belonging to the University without stating any reason for such order.

Each of the retirees claims to be entitled to receive US $1870 following their retirement in 2017, but they claim that they did not get their appropriate benefits.

The combined total of the 16 retirees’ benefit is said to be US $ 29,920. Meanwhile, the Region Three Labor Commission in Gbarnga has summoned the administration of Cuttington University to a conference hearing slated for Tuesday, 13 February at the precise hour of 11:00 AM.
