Scholarship Students Honor Governor Sirleaf

Over 20 university students, benefiting financial assistance from Deputy Executive Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia Charles Sirleaf, have honored and certificated him for what they termed his humanitarian assistance towards the student population in the country.

Deputy Governor Sirleaf has been offering financial assistance through a personal scholarship scheme to over 20 students in several institutions of higher learning in the country in the last two years.

According to the students, the Deputy Governor’s assistance has helped to alleviate their financial (tuition) burdens, adding that Mr. Sirleaf has created the enabling environment that has enabled to allot more times to their studies, rather than hustling for tuition.

At a short ceremony held recently in Monrovia, the students presented certificate of appreciation and a country cloth shirt to the Deputy Governor as tokens for his gesture to them.

Upon certificating Governor Sirleaf, the head of the student delegation representing various universities in Liberia, Mr. Nah Huskin said they decided to honor him because of his steadfastness in ensuring that Liberian youths get educated to contribute to the rebuilding process of the country.

Mr. Huskin: “I’m very grateful to Mr. Sirleaf because he is really helping us greatly. Some of us do not even have the means to finance our education, but he came as a father and big brother and step in the gap to assist us. The opportunity that he has given us through the provision of this scholarship is the greatest empowerment that every Liberian youth should crave for.”

Nah Huskin is a student of the United Methodist University (UMU), studying Sociology and Economics. He noted that the deputy governor will forever be remembered for his humanitarian gestures, and called other well-meaning Liberians to follow the footstep of Governor Sirleaf in empowering Liberian youth.

“It is not that Mr. Sirleaf has too much money and does not know what to do with it, but he has a humanitarian heart and thank God we were able to fall under his grasp”, he added.

Another beneficiary, Rufus A. Bryant said: “Mr. Sirleaf’s gesture is really helping some of us now because we were constantly worrying whenever school was about to open. We are praying for him every day for God to be with him so he can continue the good job.”

The honoree was totally out of words when he saw the students converged on his compound. He said that it was a surprise for him to be honored by the students.

He however called on the student to be attentive to their lessons in order to make good grades, because whatever they learn today will determine where they (the students) will be in the future.

Meanwhile, the beneficiaries have organized themselves into an organization known as the Charles University Student Association (CUSA).
