School teacher rapes, impregnates Senator’s daughter

The 15- year- old daughter of Lofa County Senator George T. Tengbeh has been allegedly raped by a 19-year-old defendant, Andrews Bokay of New Hope Community in Paynesville City, outside Monrovia.

According to the Liberia National Police’s Women and Children Protection Section, suspect Bokay was investigated, detained and sent to court on 28 October following complaint by Sen. Tengbeh, who accused the defendant of sexually abusing his daughter and impregnating her.

The WCPS document also disclosed that suspect Bokay is an instructor of the New Hope High School in Paynesville. The Lofa County lawmaker, in his statement to the police, narrated that he realized his daughter was sexually abused by Bokayfrom July to October 2016, eventually impregnating her before relocating from New Hope to Kessely Boulevard.

However, in her statement, the victim told the police that some part of July 2016 defendant Andrews Bokay saw her on the road and asked her for love, which she consented. The victim disclosed that she and her newly found lover than exchanged phone numbers and started communicating regularly, adding that in the same month of July defendant Bokay invited her to his house, where she went and they had sex in his bedroom.

According to her, Bokay had sex with her at his house on four different occasions, including one in the bedroom of one of his friends, whom she identified as Joshua Wheagar where she got impregnated by the defendant.

Thereafter, she continued the defendant told her to abort the pregnancy and if she didn’t comply, he would not be responsible for the pregnancy. The mother of the victim Madam Sarah Tengbeh, told the police that in October 2016, she conducted pregnancy tests for all of her four daughters the results proved positive, so she asked the victim in question who impregnated her, and she (victim) called the name of defendant Bokay.

She said thereafter, the defendant was arrested on the campus of the New Hope Academy High School by the police. On behalf of the private prosecutor, honorable George T. Tengbeh, the Republic of Liberia by and through the Ministry of Justice has charged defendant Bokay with the crime statutory rape in violation of section 14.70 of the new penal code of Liberia.

The state said the act is criminal, intentional and illegal in violation of the above section mentioned supra. In his voluntary statement to the police, the defendant admitted he impregnated the victim and agreed to take full responsibility for the pregnancy. Meanwhile, defendant Bokay has been remanded at the Monrovia Central Prison, awaiting trial at the Circuit Court in Monrovia.
