Sen. Doe Sherif challenges presidential hopefuls

Montserrado County Senator Geraldine Doe-Sherif has challenged Liberian politicians aspiring for the Presidency to showcase their ability to empower vulnerable people in society, especially women.

She gave the challenge over the weekend while serving as guest speaker at the graduation of 100 vulnerable women of the Kollah Women Empowerment Foundation (COWEP) in Rock Hill Community, Paynesville City.

Senator Doe-Sherif said the time has come for Liberian women to compete with their male counterparts by acquiring skills they can use for their own sustainability in society. The women were trained in various disciplines, including Business Management, Soap Making, Home Economics, and Tie & Dye, among others.

The Senator stressed that by acquiring relevant skills, women will reject handouts from their male counterparts, adding that no man in today’s Liberia wants a non-productive woman, who cannot meaningfully contribute to the wellbeing of the family.

She said the rights of most Liberian women are being abused simply because they lack skills to sustain themselves and their family, noting that productive skills being acquired would positively enable women to being about the desire changes in their lives.

Senator Doe-Sherif then contributed LRD100,000 to COWEP to be distributed amongst the graduates to help sustain them through business. In remarks, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Kollah Foundation Mr. Martin Sayekollah expressed gratitude to the Montserrado County lawmaker for the gesture and described her as a role model for women in the country.
