Several Made Homeless in Nimba

Several people have been made homeless in Sehyiimpa Town, Sanniquellie-Mah District in Nimba County, following heavy storm and rain lasting almost two days.

The heavy rain and storm, which started in the north of the town, destroyed 13 houses in Sehyikimpa Town without any death.

Augustine Seedor, one of the victims told this paper that they lack shelters at the moment and were appealing to the government, NGOs and other humanitarian organizations to provide assistance.

Seedor, in tears, explained that the situation meant re-starting life again, especially so when nearly all of the victims were unemployed, noting that early intervention would lead to quick recovery. He also solicited the urgent intervention of 8 representative aspirants in the Sanniquellie-Mah District to remedy their homelessness.

However, speaking to this paper, Thomas Q. Suah, County Inspector, said his office was doing an assessment of the destruction  following which it would submit its findings to the  Internal Affairs Ministry.

Suah said the assessment was being done in consultations with the County Superintendent’s office. The Inspector expressed the government’s concern about the health and development of its people.
