Reports from Greenville, Sinoe County say Police in that part of the country have arrested 16 motorcyclists for violating traffic regulations. According to a local radio, the motorcyclists were arrested Monday for riding without helmets. Police Chief Superintendent Patrick Smith earlier held a meeting with the motorcyclists and give them up to February fifteen to ensure that they and their passengers wear helmets.
Commissioner Smith said the action was in enforcement of police safety regulations. The police safety measure also forbids pregnant women and baby mothers from riding on motorbikes.
The motorcyclists who are in police custody are required to pay a fine of fifty United States dollars before they are released. The action followed series of motorcycle accidents in the county the latest resulting to the death of a motorcyclist two Saturdays ago.
