President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the mew Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Rt. Honorable Mrs. Theresa May, for her assumption as Prime Minister.

According to a Foreign Ministry release issued in Monrovia, Honorable May was officially named Conservative Party leader and successor to David Cameron after he resigned on Wednesday, July 13. Expressing joy over the occasion, the Liberian President said: “I am delighted to extend to you, and through you, to the Government and people of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, warmest congratulations and sincere best wishes as you assume the challenging duties of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.

The release quoted President Sirleaf as saying that Prime Minister May’s preferment to the highest office of the British Government testifies to her abilities and strong leadership brought to bear in early roles. The President hoped that the transition brings more excellent ties of friendship and cooperation happily subsisting between the two countries and peoples and that it be further enhanced. She further wished Prime Minister May success as she takes on this laudable task, the release concluded.
