Handball Celebration Today

The National Handball Association will today host a one day national ball game at the Monrovia Sports Commission. The games will serve as a closing ceremony for the phase one of the decentralization program the association started in three counties.

Mason Saweler, president of the association explained that Fifteen Thousand United States Dollars were used for the three counties (Bomi, Grand Cape Mount and Grand Bassa) during the establishment series.

Although the national budget of Liberia has only three thousand United States dollars in it operation for the Handball Association annual share, Saweler argued that it is time that the Minister of Youth and Sports increase the funding because of the growing interest in the game by Liberians.

Saweler used the conversation to narrate that the national County Sports Meet chairman post be given to Association presidents on a yearly term, rather than appointed officials of the ministry of Youth and Sports. The decision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports to avoid Handball from this year national sports Meet is discouraging for the Association, Saweler voice out.
