Stakeholders convene on Safe and Just World for Girls

Equality Now and other stakeholders convene in Monrovia for a three-day workshop on safe and just world for girls. Equality Now is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1992 that aims to achieve legal and systemic change to addressing violence and discrimination against women and girls globally.

The institution’s prime focus areas include sexual violence, harmful practices (Female Genital Mutilation & child marriage), discrimination in law, and trafficking.Combining grassroots activism with global legal advocacy and strategic litigation, it envisions a world where women and men are equal in both law and practice.

The “A Safe and Just World for Girls” project, predominantly funded by Human Dignity Foundation (HDF), seeks to ensure that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) lead to positive, measurable change in the lives of girls by 2030. To that end, Equality Now has chosen four target countries, all of which participate in the Voluntary National Review (VNR) process, to focus project activities besides key regional- and global-level work. The four target countries are Egypt, Kenya, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.

The convening will also provide an opportunity to advance collective interest in realizing gender equality and women’s empowerment thru the SDGs especially on FGM, child marriage, sexual violence, sex trafficking and legal equality.
