Stop containers tracking agreement at NPA

The Alliance of Civil Society and Pro-Democracy Organizations (ACSPDOL) of Liberia is calling on President George Manneh Weah to terminate the contract reached between the Management of the National Port Authority (NPA) and Global Tracking and Maritime Solutions.

It says this is necessary to remove doubts that characterized the signing and awarding of the contract. In a press release, the ACSPDOL says its fact-finding initiative establishes that Global Tracking and Maritime Solutions lacks the credentials to man container tracking activities in Liberia.

“This company defrauded the Government of Sierra Leone in lawful taxes. This action prompted the exit of Global Tracking from Sierra Leone and surfaced in Liberia under dubious circumstance”, the Alliance says in the release.

It further claims the NPA Management without any due diligence hastily entered into a service contract with Global Tracking and Maritime Solutions outside of the Procurement Laws of Liberia.

“While we support the developmental initiatives of the Government of Liberia, we are equally opposed to the hiring of companies that are wrecked in terms of integrity, credibility and accountability”, it cautions.

The Alliance also calls on the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the facts and circumstances surrounding the procedure that led to the awarding of the service contract to Global Tracking and Maritime Solutions without a competitive bidding process in keeping with the 2010 restated Act of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission (PPCC).
