Success Academy graduates 72
About 72 students have benefited skills training from Success Creative Art Academy in Barnesville community along Somalia Drive. The graduates are all residents of Barnesville Estate where the school is located.
Predominately women from low-income homes, they received specialized training in making bags, jewelry, feet wears, and African attires.The school’s founder and executive director, Jerome T. Wille, says the mission of Success Creative Art Academy is to break dependency syndrome among Liberian youth by providing them life skills that would make them productive and useful in society.
“We train our students how to make jewelry from recycled or waste materials and also provide them with some business development so they can have the proper knowledge of running a successful business.”
He says the academy incorporates several innovative approaches to create an enabling environment for everyone to learn, saying “The first approach is designed around students’ needs like classes being held during morning and afternoon sessions to accommodate students with busy schedules.”
“Secondly, students are incentivized creatively through attendance prizes, contests and business plan competitions. Moreover, students receive constant support once they leave the school. This support is intended to guide them during the transition period for success,” Director Willie concludes.
The school is sponsored by Love Jensen, founder of Snowflake Foundations, a local NGO that provides educational support to underprivileged children free of charge. However, students are required to pay a minimum of US$4.OO (LDR 600) at registration.
In brief remark, District#11 Representative Richard Koon, expresses delight over the initiative and thanks the school’s founder for such an initiative which will gradually reduce high unemployment in his district.
“For undertaking such an initiative, you have my support. Call on me whenever you need me and I will be there to help. This is the kind of initiative we need in the district to reduce poverty,” Rep. Koon notes.
