Supt. wants support for county health team

Margibi County Superintendent is calling for more support to the county’s health system. Jerry Varnie said the health sector of the Margibi County needs more support to provide the needed health care for its people.

He says if the County Health Team is not given the required support, health workers would not be in the position to adequately cater to the health needs of the county. According to the Liberia News Agency, Superintendent Varnie spoke recently at the C. H. Rennie Memorial Hospital in Kakata, Margibi County during a turning over ceremony of the outgoing County Health Officer, Dr. Adolphus T. Yeiah.

He assures the county health team of his willingness to collaborate with them so as to adequately address the health needs of the people of Margibi County.
He notes that C. H. Rennie Memorial Hospital which is the only government referral hospital in the county was not only providing health care for the people of Margibi but other nearby counties, including Bong, Grand Bassa and rural Montserrado.

Superintendent Varnie also indicates that discussions are ongoing with the Margibi Association in the Americas for support to the county health system. Speaking earlier, the outgoing County Health Officer, Dr. Adolphus T. Yeiah expresses delight for the opportunity to have served the people of Margibi County.

Recounting his experiences while serving as County Health Officer, Dr. Yeiah notes that he took over a broken health system in 2014. “I took over as County Health Officer at the height of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in the county which caused the lives of so many professional health workers”, Dr. Yeiah tearfully recalls.

Meanwhile, newly assigned County Health Officer for Margibi, Dr. Myers Chea Pajibo assures the people of the county of his willingness to work for the further improvement of the county health system.

Dr. Pajibo says the challenges that are facing the county health team are not unique to Margibi alone but similar situation exists within all county health teams across the country.

Prior to his assignment as Margibi County Health Officer, Dr. Pajibo worked in Maryland County as Health Officer while Dr. Adolphus Yeaih takes up assignment in Bomi County. Margibi County currently has 53 health facilities, including 23 public and 30 private health facilities, respectively.
