SWAL majority bloc congratulates PUL leadership-elect

The ‘SWAL Majority Bloc,’ a mass membership of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL), has commended the leadership-elect of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), headed by Journalist Charles Coffey.

In a statement issued in Monrovia on Tuesday, 22 November the majority bloc described the victory of Coffey and his corps of officers as a rallying call for all Journalists to strengthen resolve of the Liberian media in its persistent fight for press freedom and freedom of expression.
The bloc believes Charles Coffey is unquestionably qualified, competent and capable of initiating positive programs and initiatives aimed at developing the media in Liberia and protecting the rights of all Journalists.
Charles Coffey has the experience of serving the Press Union in other capacities in which he remarkably performed, prior to his overwhelming victory against incumbent Kamara Abdullai Kamara over the weekend’s elections in Ganta City, Nimba County.
The statement calls on all participants of the Ganta congress; candidates and electorates to bury hard-feelings caused during the campaign period in order to forge a common front with the new leadership to achieve its agenda for the next three years.
“We as well call on all Journalists to remain guided by the principles of responsible journalism by carrying out their reportorial duties with the highest measure of ethical standards enshrined in the Code of Ethics of the Press Union of Liberia. We also want our new President to keep the focus of his ‘change-agenda’ and not give in to any form of distraction as he is now a leader for all and not a select-few,” the release concludes.
