Teachers On Strike in Bong

‘Non-pay’ public school teachers across Bong County have reportedly laid their chalks in demand of their salary arrears for several months  due them by government.

A spokesman for the aggrieved teachers told our correspondent that government was indebted  to them for nine months.

According to them, they were out of patience because of family and other burdens. Obediah Lamah noted that they have not received their supplementary salaries from government since February to June 2010.

He disclosed that they have not received a cent as salary since this year which resulting to complete hardship.

The aggrieved non pay teachers spokesman claimed  that over the past months, they have  exerted every effort to persuade the government to settle their arrears, but to avail.

The teachers’ spokesman vowed not to return to the class room until government settled its obligation with them in paying their just salaries they deserve.

Meanwhile, the local education authority in Bong County seems to be exerting efforts to ensure that the aggrieved teachers return to their respective areas of  assignment, while  in touch with Monrovia to settle  the problem with non pay teachers.
