Tension brews between Nimba and Rivercess

-over 2 suspicious deaths

Nimba County District Four Representative Gunpue L. Kargon has alarmed about a looming conflict between the people of Nimba and Rivercess over the death of a Nimba citizen in Rivercess County. According to Representative Kargon, the body of the deceased, Clinton Gaye, is decomposing while family members grieve and await police investigation.

“I’m calling on the police to make quick intervention; this is my third time appearing on radio to talk about this issue, this morning, it is getting very tense and very embarrassing; people are just calling me from all over,” the Nimba lawmaker alarmed.

He narrated that it all started in Rivercee County when a kinsmen from Nimba identified as Clinton Gaye had gone to Rivercess to seek greener pastures at a local mine known as Sand Beach Gold Mine, but was excused of involvement in witchcraft activity.

“Clinton Gaye who is dead now was excused of throwing witch on a girl that brought to Monrovia for treatment but later pronounced dead. It was based on the accusation that some Rivercess residents stormed the mine and demanded the mine governor to turn Clinton over to them,” he further narrated.

According to the lawmaker, when the mines governor sought evidence from the angry Rivercess residents, the head of the group told the governor that the case will be proven in the devil bush. He said upon hearing the angry residents’ disenchantment, the mines governor advised that the devil bush would not be the right venue, rather, it was necessary to invite the Liberia National Police to probe the girl’s death.

“The people said they can’t do that, so campus master in the sand beach mines identified as Teddy Nelson alone with other guys went to Clinton Gaye’s house and looted his belongings then a guy who is also from Nimba that was on a visit in that part of Rivercess asked question but the campus master told him since he was asking question about Clinton’s crime then you will be involved.”

Rep. Kargon continued that while the friend of Clinton and the camp master with his boys were still in the conversation, another citizen of Nimba also residing in the mine decided to inquire on the matter, but later was similarly implicated.

“They took these three guys with them but before leaving to their devil bush, the governor from Nimba with some elders decided to follow but they were blocked by the camp master from going further. So they carried these guys for the first time, when they brought them back they were flogged to the letter,” he noted.

He said again Clinton and his friends were taking back into the devil bush and couldn’t be seen for over five days, noting that it was at that moment he (Representative GunpueKargon) received a call from the police commander in Tappita, Nimba that the police had found an unknown person believed to be from the district with all his teeth removed from his mouth and wounds on his body.

The district #4 lawmaker explained that upon talking with the victim, it was discovered that the victim was Clinton, who was taken to the devil bush in Rivercee County.

Kargon said he immediately transferred money to the police in Tappita to take Clinton to hospital for medication, but unfortunately days later he passed off, while his colleagues, who went to his rescue, are in critical conditions. He lamented that despite calls made to the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police to take seized of the matter, the police are yet to intervene.
