Tom Woewiyu “Lied”, Detained for Perjury

The Honorable “Tom” Jucontee Woewiyu – the acid-tongued, pseudo-revolutionary and member of the legendary Association for Constitutional Democracy in Liberia (ACDL); founding Member, Defense Minister and Commander-in-chief, with military command/control, planning/strategic authority over the fighting forces of the insurgent, National Patriotic Front of Liberia (NPFL); second-in-command of civilian/policy-making authority of the illegal organization (NPFL) that battered and laid the Liberian nation’s cities, towns and villages in ruins; looted homes, offices, business houses, commercial/industrial plants, including our only, Mount Coffee, Hydro electric plant; and dished out mind-boggling plunder, destruction, atrocious brutalities of rape, maiming, torture, mass murders, summary executions, human suffering and death, upon innocent men, women and children, and brought the Republic of Liberia face-to-face with near-total collapse – “lied”, has been arrested and held on charges of Perjury, upon arrival at the Newark, New Jersey, USA, International Airport.

(“a/k/a Jucontee Thomas Smith”)

In an apparent furtherance of the NPFL’s policy of Ethnic Cleansing directed, specifically, against the Krahn and Mandingo ethnic peoples, the Honorable Tom Woewiyu, as the powerful Defense Minister of the NPFL, declared publicly that “the best Krahn (and Mandingo) man is a dead Krahn man”.

Thus, that the Honorable Tom Woewiyu is clearly and definitively culpable, beyond all reasonable doubt, of the war crimes against the Liberian humanity is so self-evident that it needs no proof. Elsewhere in the article (Tom Woewiyu Opens up several Issues, The Analyst Liberia, April 18, 2014), we held that:

“During the heyday of the NPFL nightmare, the name “Tom” Woewiyu was a national/international household word. Anyone – diplomats, arms dealers (“merchants of death”); cocoa, coffee, logs, scrap metal dismantled from industrial plants (our Mt. Coffee Hydro, for example); household appliance looters and “dealers”, crooks, thieves and international criminals – seeking audience with “President” Charles Taylor, whether in Logatuo, Nimba County or Gbarnga, Bong County, in “Greater Liberia” – must, first, clear with “Tom”. That was the level and scope Mr. Tom Woewiyu’s power within the NPFL”. “Do not take my word for it. Read his Open Letter to Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, dated August 30, 2005, at http://www.theliberiandialogue.org, September 15, 2005. In this position of awesome power, backed by the AK-47 assault rifle, the NPFL Defense Minister declared, publicly, that the “best Krahn man is a dead Krahn man”. No wonder the late President Doe, who happened to be a prominent, ethnic Krahn citizen, was led to capture by NPFL acts of conspiracy, mutilated while alive, and tortured to death by elements of Mr. Woewiyu’s NPFL “revolution”.

In Mr. Tom Woewiyu’s Open Letter (of charges, confession and revelations) addressed to candidate Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, he admits all of the horrendous acts committed against innocent, unarmed, Liberian people and nation. Moreover, the story of their deadly exploits in the name and under the banner of ‘freedom fighters’, as told by the Hon. Woewiyu, will, eventually, come out and catch up with all of them. The fact of Mr. Charles Taylor’s 50-year prison term is a case in point . . . But, we did not expect a confession/revelation of such political infidelity of this nature, scope and intensity of and from Mr. Woewiyu”.

“The confessions/revelations are, in fact, ‘spine-chilling, political intrigues’, a tale . . .  in which nationally-distinguished, high-profiled, trained/experienced of Liberia’s political notables are allegedly involved – Mrs. Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, former Minister of Finance, now candidate for President of Liberia; Dr. Amos C. Sawyer, Political Scientist, Professor & former Interim President of Liberia; the late General Thomas Quiwonkpa, AFL Commanding General & Member, PRC; the late, Honorable G. Moses Duopu, Advisor, PRC; Honorable Harry Greaves, Jr., Advisor to Interim Chairman of NTGL; Honorable B. Company Wesseh, Member of NTLA; Honorable Harry Yuan, former Managing Director, LEC; Messrs. Randolph & Ethebert Cooper, Businessmen; Cllrs. Chris Maxwell (late), Clarence L. Simpson, Jr. and Gbelia; Drs. S. Byron Tarr, Gaywea McIntosh, Edward Clinton, and H. Boima” “Fahnbulleh, Jr.; the late Honorables Samuel Saye Dokie, Taylor E. Major, D. Tuan Wleh Mayson; the Immigration Officer, Mr. Jackson and many others that, together, constituted the cast of characters of this deadly, political play, according to the Hon. Tom Woewiyu”.

However, the Honorable, Thomas Woewiyu (a/k/a Jucontee Thomas Smith) managed to evade and escape, successfully, the UN travel ban and assets freeze imposed upon NPFL notables and leaders, while living in the USA on a permanent resident visa since 1972.  For, “Tom” Woewiyu, like his former boss, Mr. “Charlie” Taylor, played high-stakes, national/international politics – Liberia, USA, Nigeria, Ghana, La Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Togo, Libya, France, Germany, the UK, Mali, etc., etc. With confidence gained from the successes of these national/international manipulations (deedeebahs, in Liberian language), Mr. Tom Woewiyu made the mistake by applying for US citizenship and lying on the N-400, USCIS Application Form.

According to the Federal indictment, Mr. Woewiyu submitted Application (N-400) for naturalization on January 23, 2006. At the end of the Form N-400, the applicant signs the document in which he/she certifies, under penalty of perjury, that its (the N-400 application’s) contents are all true and correct. Mr. Woewiyu completed, signed and submitted the N-400 Application. On January 30, 2009, Mr. Woewiyu was interviewed under oath by an Immigration Services Officer. At the conclusion of the interview, Mr. Woewiyu signed a certification in which he swore and certified “under penalty of perjury under the laws of the USA” that he knew that the contents of his “application for naturalization . . . including corrections . . . and the evidence submitted by him . . . were true and correct to the best of his knowledge and belief”. Mr. Woewiyu’s signed certification included, among others, the following questions and answers:

1. Question 8a: Have you ever been a member of or associated with any organization, association, fund, foundation, party, club, society, or similar group in the United States or any place? Answer: Initially, the answer was NO, verbally; however, “upon repeated prompting”, Mr. Woewiyu responded by listing only ULAA in the USA. He did not disclose his membership in, and association with, all organizations, including but not limited to the NPFL and the NPFL-CRC.

2. Question 10: Have you ever advocated, directly or indirectly, the overthrow of any government by force or violence? Answer: NO. Mr. Woewiyu did not disclose that he had advocated the overthrow of the Doe, Liberian government by force or violence.

3. Question 11: Have you ever persecuted, directly or indirectly, any person because of race, religion, national origin, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion? Answer: NO. Mr. Woewiyu did not disclose that while he was a member of, among other organizations, the NPFL, he persecuted others because of their political opinions, and membership in a particular social group, including the Krahn and Mandingo tribes.

4. Question 18: Have you ever been convicted of a crime or offence? Answer: NO. However, Mr. Woewiyu listed in the space provided on the Application, N-400, Form, that he pled guilty to a 1982 New York State misdemeanor receiving stolen property charge. But Mr. Woewiyu did not disclose his 1970 New York State conviction for falsification of business records.

And finally, the US Federal Indictment against Mr. Thomas Woewiyu reads that “from on and about January 23, 2006 through on or about January 30, 2009, in the Eastern District of (the State of) Pennsylvania (USA) and elsewhere, defendant Jucontee Thomas Woewiyu, knowingly attempted to procure and obtain, contrary to law, naturalization as a United States citizen for himself, by knowingly providing false and fraudulent information as to material fact, and by omitting material fact, in his Application, for naturalization, Form N-400, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 1425(a)”.

The United Press International (UPI) reports that, if convicted, the Honorable Thomas Woewiyu, age 68, stands to join former President Taylor and (his son) Chucky Taylor in prison for 110 years and millions of US dollars in fines, in testament that crime does not and has never paid throughout human history.
