Total Liberia Gets New Boss

Total Liberia outgoing Managing Director Oliver Lassagne says the company has invested over $50 million here in the past seven years. Lassagne made the disclosure Tuesday at a press conference in Monrovia when he introduced Robert Fenech as Total Liberia’s new Managing Director.

Speaking at the company’s offices near the Liberia Petroleum Refinery Company (LPRC) grounds on Bushrod Island, Lassagne announced his departure for Burkina Fasso to head the branch there, which is two times bigger than Total Liberia. He told reporters that the company has built more than 20 stations across Liberia with a few more construction ongoing in other parts of the country.

“We have stations in Buchanan, Ganta, Kakata, Zorzor, Robertsport and Tubmanburg; all of those places now can enjoy quality products, quality services in brand new and modern service stations,” said Lassagne.

He said Out of a thousand employees at Total Liberia, only four are foreigners; the rest are Liberians. He said Total Liberia intends to keep restricting the number of foreigners working here because one of its key focuses is to provide jobs for Liberians.

Lassagne said over the period, Total Liberia has supplied fuel to several big corporations in Liberia, including the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Acelor Mittal, and BHP Billiton as well as vessels coming into the country, among others.

“…We give them quality fuel every day to make sure that they never run out of product; so companies like LEC are able to supply electricity based on the diesel fuel that we supply them and they generate the power”,  Lassagne the out-going Total Liberia manager added. He recalled the company started operations in Liberia almost from scratch, with barely five trucks, but today, it has more than 100 trucks.

Though most of those trucks are not brand new, Lassagne said Total has been financing them through EcoBank and many other banks in Liberia, and has been able to move from one truck to 20 trucks and each worth two or three millions.
