Training For ISSA Basketball Coaches

Thirty Inter School Sports Association Basketball Coaches will shortly benefit from an intensive one-week training course in Monrovia. In an interview with The New Dawn Sports recently, the President of ISSA, Joseph Willie said the training program is aimed at building the capacity of high school basketball coaches to meet international standards.

He did not, however, state the cost of the program, but quickly noted that it is being sponsored by the International Olympic Committee, through the Liberia National Olympic Committee.

The training, which according to Willie, is set for March 1 through the 7th, would have as facilitators, a Senegalese Basketball expert who is also an executive committee member of the International Olympic Committee.

Willie, who is also the Secretary General of the LNOC, said the training course is the eleventh since his ascendance to the secretariat of the LNOC.

“While we are grateful to our sponsor, it is believed that skills acquired by targeted beneficiaries will go a long way in their lives and Liberians at large,” Mr. Willie noted.

According to him, while ISSA is closely working with the Liberia Basketball Federation, courses to be taught are determined by the facilitator (the Senegalese Basketball expert), expressing
