Truck Smashes Taxi Cab, 2 Motorbikes

Police in Grand Bassa County, southeast Liberia are investigating the driver of a truck, which smashed two motorbikes and a taxi cab at a checkpoint in Owensgrove along the Buchanan-Monrovia highway last Friday, 5 July, leaving one officer of the Liberia National Police seriously wounded.

The truck, with empty crates of coca cola bottles was heading to Monrovia from Buchanan when the driver lost control of his steering and ran into the taxi cab and motorcycles. Though no immediate death has been reported, but the wounded police officer has been admitted at the Du-Side Hospital in Harbel, Margibi County

According to report, Grand Bassa County traffic police commander Allen Suah, who confirmed the incident, said investigation, was underway. He did not however tell local journalists when the investigation will be completed or who the truck driver was.

This is the latest road accident in the aftermath of a similar incident which occurred in Bong County last month that left about five persons instantly dead. Highway accidents continue to leave many persons dead, particularly in rural areas where truck drivers and heavy duty equipment usually ignore road signs.
