UL instructor disrupts gathering in Nimba

An instructor from the University of Liberia has reportedly disrupted a peaceful gathering in Kpain, electoral district# 8, Nimba County. The fund-raising and inaugural program for the Board of Directors of Voice of Meinpea, a community radio station, was organized by a former government official now owner of the community radio station, Nya Mantein.

At the ceremony, the defeated representative candidate for district#8, who is an instructor at the University Of Liberia Melvin Saye Sendolo Garpeh, disrupted the program after the MC called on incumbent Representative Larry P. Younquoi to speak at the occasion.

But Melvin Saye Sendolo Garpeh protested that he could not sit to listen to Representative Younquoi on grounds that he does not recognize the authority of the lawmaker.

His pronouncement created disruption among citizens, including supporters of Representative Larry P.Younquoi’s some of whom joined Garpeh in walking out of the hall. Subsequently, Younquoi himself left the scene.

Police recently arrested Garpeh in connection with the death of a 28-year-old motorcyclist, Chris Gbusseh, spending two nights in detention before he was released.
The bad blood between Garpeh and Rep. Younquoi followed the 2017 elections in which the former lost to Younquoi, who won a second term.
