ULD descends on Rep. Nyumanlin

The Union of Liberian Democrats or ULD has expressed serious disappointment in newly inducted Representative of electoral district#1 in Lofa County, Francis S. Nyumanlin, for recent comments made against the party.

Addressing a news conference on Thursday, April 20, at the party headquarters in the Borough of New Kru Town, ULD National Chairman Solomon G. Kahn, said recent remarks by Representative Nyumanlin are disheartening and disappointing to members of the party.

“Though the ULD Representative has his political right to support whoever he desires, but the disappointing thing is that how can a man, who was struggling to find a political party to contest on, will want to pay evil for good, by castigating the same party that deliver him.[It] is unfortunate to have people around here seeking for political rescue after running all over the place, we thought he was going to help move the ULD forward, but he is here, using the ULD as a scapegoat preaching the manifesto of the UP that was beaten in the election.”

“We at the ULD are very disappointed about his remarks, we think its undermines the efforts of our party that a sitting representative will want to castigate his own political party just to support his kinsman, if he wanted to that, he should’ve gone looking for his kinsman’s party and not to contest on the UDL ticket”, Chairman Khan further vented his frustration.

Representative Nyumalin obtained 3,149 votes in the Lofa by-election, which accounts for 32 percent of the total votes cast, followed by William T. Kamba of the Movement for Economic Empowerment, 2,996 votes, representing 30.5 percent at the February 28 polls.
The Lofa County Lawmaker, who appeared on Truth Breakfast Show on Monday this week, has pledged his support to the candidacy of Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, standard bearer of the governing Unity Party for the coming elections.

Representative Nyumanlin refers to the Vice President as his political God-father, something, which has drawn contestation from ULD officials and partisans.
Meanwhile, Chairman Kahn has disclosed that party is about to go to national convention shortly to elect its standard bearer and vice standard bearer, respectively for the impending polls.

“We are pleased to inform the public and our partisans that the ULD convention is being scheduled for 22nd of April at the lagoon hotel” in New Kru Town. He added that other offices to be contested for during the convention include Vice Chairman for Administration, Secretary General, and Assistant Secretary General, Vice Chair for Media Relations, and Vice Chair for Operations, respectively, among others.
