Under-23 in Qualifying Rounds

The U-23 football team of Liberia Sunday delivered the needed result to advance in qualifying for London 2012 Olympics.

The U23 side got the match opener through Russian-based forward Sekou Jabateh in the 57th minute, with a response from the Shooting Star of Sierra Leone in the 70th minute through attacker Bangura.

Efforts by both sides failed to yield positive results throughout the remaining minutes of the match.  Additional 30 minutes of play could not give either side the advantage.

Marcus Macaulay pressing ability aided Liberia during the 120 minutes of soccer action, as all visions to win from the field of play proved fruitless. Both teams made the judged from the spot kick.

Lone Star keeper Gallay saved the Sierra Leonia first kick of the show. At the end, Liberia’s U-23 scored three out of five penalty kicks, while the Sierra Leoneans scored 1. The game ended 4-2 in favor of the Liberians.

The U-23 National football team will now meet the Ivorian U-23 in the first round of the next stage of the 2012 London Olympics qualifying rounds.
