This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
As I promised last week, today we shall discuss the CODE OF FRIENDSHIP; in other words, THE RULES OF FRIENDSHIP. There are so many other rules one may see as an individual that keeps up friendship. But we shall be looking at the five most important. As we all know most times we fail in friendship, even in our marriages we fail due to the lack of knowledge in these rules. I pray that after you have read with understanding these rules, God will help you to perfect it in your life.
CODE OF FRIENDSHIP
We all know that love is the greatest commandment, and the bible says in: PROV.17:17 – “A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
Love plays a very important role in relationship as a whole. With the absence of love there cannot be friendship and friendship without love is fake, and cannot work. When love is present in your relationship, you can be sure that all is well. Our relationship with God exists and continues to flow because we are sure of His love day by day. He Loves us and proves that he cares. Doubt is one of the factors that cause us not to love our relationship. Once you start having doubt for you relationships, notice that your love will start to decrease.
Under LOVE we have the qualities of true love; THE SOURCE- what is the nature of your love to your friend or relationship, is it for who he is or what he has?
THE QUALITY- is your love unconditional or when your friend falls then you are gone, instead of lifting him up? THE GOAL- most of us are so shellfish; we only seek to accomplish our goal, not our friends because we always want to be higher than them.
THE EVIDENCE- what is the proof of your love to your friend.
JOHN 3:16 – “For GOD so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son.”
THE EXTENT- the degree of love is sacrifice. Love is outpouring and not self-seeking. Love does not only act when it is convenient, it sacrifices when it is inconvenient.
Another major rule is the need for understanding. In relationship there is a need for understanding, when there is understanding between the two it will be difficult for an outsider to bring division between both you.
3. TRUST– this is one of the rules we find difficult to go alone with. To be real if you love a person you should be able to trust. If not, it is not LOVE but LUST. You are only pretending to satisfy your selfish desire.
4. HONESTY– be open to the one you love do not have any hidden agenda that can kill away friendship. Honesty is the key to successful flow between friends. He that has a friend must be friendly and honest that what keeps the relationship going.
5. RESPECT– how can you have a friend that you do not respect? That is an insult.
Let me stop here for today.
