UP Lawmaker attacks Urey, Brumskine, CDC

Nimba County Representative WorleaSawahDunah has unleashed a stinking attack against two presidential hopefuls and the main opposition Congress for Democratic Change or CDC, saying, they are living in a dream world.

Taking on Liberian businessman-turn presidential hopeful, Benoni Urey, Representative Dunah said Liberians should not consider Mr. Urey as an alternative for the Liberian presidency because his leadership would be the worst administration ever in the history of Liberia.

He said Mr. Urey’s close association with convicted ex-President Charles Taylor is a clear indication that he should not be an option for the nation’s highest seat. Speaking to The NewDawn he said Urey and his likes cannot state or show any documentation to reflect how they amass their ‘so-called’ wealth, noting that the All Liberians Party political leader was just an ordinary citizen until Taylor ascended to the Liberian presidency.

The ALP is attracting young people across the country, particularly in Montserrado County where the CDC has held a strong grip during the last two Presidential elections as demonstrated by the huge turnout of young people at its recent certification and refreshment program in Monrovia.

Speaking to this paper recently at the ALP headquarters on the Old Road in Monrovia, National Chairman Emmanuel Lomax, said the party’semergence on the political landscape of Liberia has sent all political parties and individuals aspiring for the Presidency worrying.

According to him, the ALP is now engaged in a loan scheme, creating direct empowerment for its business-orientated partisans, adding that secondly, young people who saw CDC’s George Weah as the only source of redemption for their political and socio-economic status, now have Urey as the best option, adding that Urey has qualities of an ordinary Liberian citizen, who understands the plight of the people.

But the Nimba lawmaker, who is a stalwart of the ruling Unity Party, said the impending 2017 general and presidential elections is a showcase for the UP because its achievements are in the public glare. He said the ruling party has erected some serious mechanisms which allow Liberians to know about governance process and talk or criticize freely.

Due to the structure introduced by the Unity Party, Liberians can now talk about corruption in government”, he noted. Turning to the opposition Liberty Party, its political leader Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine cannot win election in the country relying on Grand Bassa County as his only support base.

He recalled that during Cllr. Brumskine tenure as President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, he (Brumskine) had claimed that the Senate President Pro-Tempore post is higher than the Speaker of the House of Representative, an assertion which Representative Dunah described as an abuse of the Constitution of Liberia and a clear message that Brumskine is a tyrant.

Turning to Senator George Weah’s Congress for Democratic Change, the lawmaker said the CDC is threading on the path of defeat clouded with misconceptions that because they have lost two elections, the 2017 presidential race is their time, adding, this is far from reality.

He said it is unfortunate and a show of ignorance that the CDC would live in falsehood about the Liberian presidency. In a recent interview, CDC National Secretary General, JangaKowo, said, the actual numerical strength of a political party is known at the ballot box and not in the media.

Kowo said CDC is the only political party in the country that has maintained its tolerance and popularity despite being suppressed by the ruling Unity Party
