US$7,000 left in Bong County treasury

Bong County Electoral District #3 Representative and Legislative Caucus Secretary General Josiah Marvin Cole says only US$7,000 is left in the county’s coffers.He made the assertion Thursday, 7 November when he spoke on a local community radio KWATEKEH in Bong County via mobile phone from Monrovia.

He however says it is anticipated that the US$7,000.00 will be topped – up to approximately US$1.6 million from national budget in the upcoming county sitting.There are speculations that County Council Sitting which was scheduled for this Saturday, 10 November might not be possible due to the absence of Salala District Representative Moima-Briggs Mensah from the country.

According to report, Rep. Mensah is currently in Nigeria seeking medication.When Rep. Cole was quizzed about Representative Mensah, he said that it is true that the lawmaker is out of the country, but talks are being held among the rest of the eight lawmakers of the county to have the sitting either on Monday or Tuesday next week.

Representative Cole says there is no one lawmaker of the county that is bigger than the County, noting that the interest of the citizens will be prioritized in the pending County Council Sitting.According to Representative Cole, though he is to shortly leave the country for a medical break, he would ensure as a secretary of the Caucus, that his impact is felt at the first sitting of the county since his election as lawmaker of Jorquelleh District in 2017.

He called on the citizens of Bong County to remain united as the seek to achieve the development agenda of the county, especially under President George Manneh Weah’s pro-poor agenda for development and prosperity.

In keeping with Section 9 Counts (a & b) of the Amended Budget Law of Liberia, those to convene in Gbarnga for the county council sitting include: traditional communities, statutory districts, administrative districts, municipalities and township.
