Vaccine campaign turns sour

Vaccine campaignA vehicle belonging to the Nimba County Health Team transporting Polio vaccine materials has crashed between Sanniquellie and Karnplay, in Nimba County, with the driver sustaining serious injuries.

The NewDawn correspondent in Nimba says the Toyota Land Cruiser jeep with license plate RL 3102 was enroute from Sanniquellie to Karnplay with Polio vaccine kits when the crash transpired. It has not been established whether the driver was speeding when the vehicle crashed, but the Head of the County Health Team of Nimba, Dr. Collins Bowah, confirmed the crash in Ganta.

Dr. Bowah said this was the first Polio vaccination team headed for Gbeh-lay-geh district in Nimba when the incident occurred. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle has been admitted at the G.W. Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie, receiving medication.

It is not known whether under-five kids in Gbeh-lay-geh district will still benefit from the current polio vaccine campaign launched by the Ministry of Health across the country, in the wake of the crash.
