Voinjama District Citizens Upgrading 4-Mile Road

Citizens of Duogomai and Kortee Towns in Voinjama District, Lofa County, have started a self-help initiative to recondition a four-mile road linking the two towns.

Making the disclosure Tuesday in an interview with the Liberia News Agency, Youth Chairman James Akoi said the road project is code-named:  “Duogomai-Kortee Towns Peace and Unity Project.”

Akoi said 75 youths, including females from both towns, are carrying out the project using tools like hoes, diggers, cutlasses, axes, shovels and power saws. He did not state the cost of the project, but said the money and materials were provided by citizens of both towns.

Akoi is, however, calling on well-meaning Lofians as well as NGOs operating in the county to provide financial and material support to ensure the speedy completion of the road project. He said an improved road will enhance trade and commerce as well as free movement of residents of the area.

Chairman Akoi said the initiative is part of efforts to buttress government’s development agenda as well as foster peace, unity and understanding between the two sisterly towns.
