Liberia’s Vice President Madam Jewel Howard Taylor launches the National Family Planning implementation plan in Monrovia.Held under the theme, “National Investment For Access to Quality Family Planning for Healthy and Economic Development”, the program was organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with partners.
Speaking Tuesday, 25 September at the Monrovia City Hall, Veep Taylor underscores the importance the National Plan, which she notes will definitely reduce maternal mortality, avert unwanted pregnancies and reduce abortions,

amongst others. She prays that this is the beginning of a more holistic national plan to address all segments of development which will enable stakeholders truly achieve the demographic dividend in an environment where all capabilities are harnessed and productive for sustained development, equity and peace.

She notes that it has to be a bigger picture which insures that 60 percent of the youth population are provided opportunities to access and exploit opportunities at all levels thereby, becoming productive members of society and contributing as a prepared labor force, saving, investing and being the engine of economic growth and development.

“At this level, the decisions that need to be taken can be taken through understanding of the need for family planning which will accelerate the possibilities of achieving demographic dividends”, Vice President Taylor adds.
She however lauds the Ministry of Health, the Family Planning Association of Liberia and partners for their farsightedness and diligence in arousing government and partners as well as the public awareness and interest at this critical area of interest.

“As you are aware, it is critical as it has the potential to heavily influence human behavior which will be hugely impactful on our nation’s quest for socio–economic transformation and equity, I salute you for meeting this challenge head on”, VP Taylor concludes.
