VP Taylor welcomes AU envoy

Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, received in audience, the Special Representative of the chairperson of the African Union to Liberia, H.E. Ibrahim Mbaba Kamara at her capitol Building Office in Monrovia.


According to a release from the office of the Vice President, VP Howard-Taylor recalled the long and friendly ties with African Union which have strengthened Liberia in many ways and promoted closer cooperation in the areas of trade investment, agriculture, security, education, roads, and capacity development among others.

She welcomed Ambassador Kamara to her office and thanked the AU for remaining in Liberia to monitor and coordinate with the government on development and peace building issues in the country.

The Liberia Vice president according to a release used the occasion to praise the recent election of H.E. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda as chairperson of AU, expressing the hope that his leadership at the Union will see serious empowerment for women on the African continent.

She promised to submit to the Liberian office of the AU, based on a request, critical development proposals of his Excellency George Weah for possible support by the AU.

During the brief meeting, Amb Kamara recalled the historical ties on the formation of the AU with Liberia playing a critical role in the process.

According to him, the AU-Liberian office will not only provide highlights on the activities of government but will also ensure that the challenges are flagged for the purpose of development and peace building.

Amb. Kamara recounted the support of the AU to Liberia including the instillation of a functional internet facility at the Grand Bassa County community college and the provision of equipment valued at over one thousand US-dollars to the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, the new AU Special Representative to Liberia has termed as major challenged the delay on the part of Government Ministries and Agencies to submitting development proposals for onwards submission to the AU headquarters for action.
