Liberia’s leading mobile GSM Company – Lonestar cell MTN, has disclosed that it has fulfilled all of its promises made at the start of its operations in Liberia since 2001.The company said the commitment it made to the nation has been fulfilled through the expansion of its network in the remote parts of the country.
Addressing customers, partners, staffs, and reporters during a colorful 15th anniversary celebration program on Saturday, July 14, 2016, the Chief Executive Officer of Lonestar cell MTN, Mr. Babatunde
Osho, said, he was extremely proud to form part of the celebration, saying it was a milestone with the unveiling of the company’s new logo – an incredibly significant accomplishment that few companies are able to achieve.
“When we entered the Liberian market 15 years ago, we made a commitment to journey with the Liberian nation, expanding our network throughout the country, and introducing world class services that would transform the lives of our valuable customers in the country, and today, I am pleased to say that we have kept those promises,” he noted.
Lonestar cell MTN’s 15th anniversary celebration, which took place in Sinkor on 3rdstreet at the Bella Cassa Hotel, brought together some key personalities, including the Political Leader of the All Liberian Party, Benoni Urey – also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, members of the 53rd National Legislature, officials of government from line Ministries and Agencies, as well as other high business executives, among others.
According to Lonestar’s CEO, the telecommunication sector was one of the most dynamic in the world and since 2001, Lonestar cell MTN has played a pioneering role in its development in Liberia.
“We were the first GSM company to open our doors to the public in August 2001; the company and its dedicated team of 50 employees, braved uncertainty during the conflict years to connect customers,” he indicated.
Giving an update on the company’s achievement, the CEO said: “starting 17 towers constructed by Lonestar cell engineers and technicians, the company connected Monrovia, Harbel, Berwerville, Kakata, RIA, Paynesville, Virginia, Freeport and the freeway, providing GSM voices and SMS services,” added that in 2003, the first container site was launched in LAC Buchanan, expanding coverage along the coast, and in 2005, while the first mobile site in Greenville, Sinoe County and Zorzor, Lofa County were also launched.
“Today, we have over 230 sites providing excellent network coverage to cities, towns, villages and remote areas across the country,” he said. Mr. Babatunde Osho boasted that Lonestar cell MTN was the most popular brand in the country, saying the brand symbolizes progress, with the company leading the way in the provision of innovative products and services, market share, customers service, talent management, and investment in sustainable corporate social investment initiatives.
He further indicated that Corporate Governance, Leadership, Innovation, Relationship, Integrity and a can –do are the core of Lonestar cell MTN’S corporate values and are reflected in every aspect of the company’s day-to-day operations.
The Lonestar Cell MTN CEO pointed out that the company prioritizes its responsibility towards the communities it serves, through the creation of the Lonestar cell MTN foundation, saying the company, to date, has invested 1% of its annual PAT to support Education, Health, Environment, Sports, Women and Youth initiatives, as well as its annual employee volunteerism initiatives, which is the 21 days of y’ello.
Speaking earlier, the Deputy CEO of the company, Mr. Louis Brah Roberts, said the company has provided 15 years of dedicated services to the people of Liberia. He said the company, like in the time past, is committed to contributing to the economic viability of Liberia, expressing gratitude to the Government of Liberia headed by President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and its many subscribers for the support to the company’s success.
