Weah black lists rapists & murderers

Convicts at the Monrovia Central Prison got the real talk on Tuesday July 24, when President George Manneh Weah bluntly told them that our society don’t need them particularly rapists and murderers.

“We are to make sure that we behave well because our society don’t need a rapist; our society don’t need an armed robber,” Mr. Weah said. As if that was not enough, he said those accused of rape and murder will be confined if found guilty.

The president made these comments when he granted presidential clemency to 38 inmates that have shown good behaviors and those with lesser crimes as part celebration of the July 26 Independence Day celebration.

Mr. Weah says it’s unacceptable to see children below 18 facing charges for crimes as rape, manslaughter and armed robbery, thus urging those that are teaching the young people here to continue to admonish them to be good citizens.

“It’s difficult to come to a prison and to note that a young man who is not even 18 years old will be charged for rape, to be charged for manslaughter, will be charged for armed robbery,” President Weah says.

After some juvenile inmates sang a welcome song for President Weah at MCP, he said it’s a sad day for him to walk in an environment where he sees “lot of young people that should have been lawyers and doctors” all being inmates.

“It’s sad because you are our future generation,” Mr. Weah says.He blasts some detainees who have not changed their attitudes to be granted clemency, saying “there’s no record” showing report of their good behavior.

He assures that he will return during holidays to grant presidential clemencies to those showing good behavior.Mr. Weah says government is working on a new prison, recognizing that inmates have their rights to health care, better life and clean environment while being confined.
