Weah dedicates annexes to Capitol Building

President George Manneh Weah has dedicated China Aid annexes to the Capitol Building in monrovia following completion of the project by the Chinese government.


China began the project nearing the end of former President Ellen Johnson – Sirleaf’s last term in office to help expand the official home of Liberia’s lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Dedicating the two annexes to the Capitol, President Weah says the relationship between Liberia and China over the past 40 years has been very strong and will continue to be strong.

He says the people of Liberia are very grateful for the annexes and expresses thanks to the people of Chain for coming to Liberia’s aid.Earlier, the Chairman on Joint Legislative Modernization Committee Senator Commany B. Wesseh said the purpose of the building is to make sure that the Legislature gets good office space to work.

Sen. Wesseh says the work could not be done without the support of past leaderships of both Houses.Also speaking, Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan says the project was fully funded by the people of China and was fully completed.

According to Minister Nyenpan, the total cost of the annexes was US$12.9 million. He says the annexes have the total of 60 offices, two chambers and one joint chambers.

According to Minister Nyenpan, the people of China will provide two years of maintenance during which Liberians will be trained to take over the facilities.For his part Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Fu Jijun says the handing over of the building is just on time for the upcoming of the Independence Day celebration here.He thanks the government and people of Liberia for the partnership.
