Weah withdraws Tyler’s nomination

President George M. Weah has withdrawn the nomination of former House Speaker Alex Tyler from the Board of ArcelorMittal Operating Company with immediate effect.

Mr. Tyler was nominated along with several individuals to various positions in Government by President Weah on Tuesday June 18.His nomination drew criticisms and negative reportage drawing the nick name “corruption King Kong.”

The former speaker is among several present and former government officials indicted in the Sable Mining bribery scandal, a case which is presenting before the court.

He was named on the ArcelorMittal board along with Rev. Joseph G. Johnson, and the Ministries of Finance Development Planning, Mines and Energy which are statutory members.

In a statement issued Friday June 21, the President said Tyler’s replacement will be announced soon.Tyler’s party, the Liberian People Democratic Party (LPDP), is one of the three political parties that make up the Coalition for Democratic Change or CDC, the ruling party.
