Residents of West Point Township in Monrovia have welcomed the mobile money service of Lonestar Cell MTN. Hundreds of residents in the township were seen in queue to register for the service over the weekend.
In an interview with this paper, they whole heartedly welcomed the service in their area, and added that many of them do not have time to queue at banks to receive money from relatives and loved ones.
Lonestar Cell MTN over the weekend held a soccer jamboree in the township to sensitize inhabitants on the importance of the mobile service, and how customers can register for the service.
More than eight teams were brought together in the community from Montserrado County District # 7 to participate in the tournament hosted by the giant GSM Company.
Prizes were given to residents who registered on the days of the tournament as an encouragement for using the service. There were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners of the tournament.
An official of Lonestar Cell MTN Morris Teah, said the company is using sports to disseminate the importance of the service because sports unite people from different sectors of live.
Morris explained that the mobile money service can be used to recharge phones without getting out to agents in the fields. He noted that if everyone will use the mobile money service, the electronic recharge of phone will be used frequently than buying scratch cards in the streets. Morris said the program will be taken to other parts of Monrovia to ensure that Liberians take advantage of the service.
