Will FC Fassell Win Peace Cup?

Liberia’s newly promoted first Division Outfit FC Fassell in collaboration with the National Election Commission is hosting a Peace Tournament with the objective of telling Liberian youths about the significant of Peace during and after the election period.

The club kickoff the tournament on Wednesday at Antoinette Tubman Stadium against current Knock-Out champion Invisible Eleven, but the match did not produced the level of football expected from the rough and aggressive 1st Division side that is popular across the football circle of Liberia, despite settling 1-1 with Invisible Eleven.

Despite the huge quantity of fresh players that landed at the club, many attending the game on Wednesday were heard chatting about the new format of the club that started more than six new signings.

Although the club was able to pull one goal from one of the fresh strikers Veto Sawyer, FC Fassell expectation of winning the Peace Cup remains question because of the new set of players are not yet adjusted to the kind of football played during the second division term.

The club brought on Isaac Nana Gibson from IE, Nuzohn Kulala, Eddie Wulo formerly of LISCR FC, Tony FC former Sweeper Bill Grayfrod, Sam Peters from Mighty Barrolle, Emmanuel Dee and the man that equalized for FC Fassell was Vito Sawyer a new signing.

Many of the fans want the technical staff of the team to blank couple of the players from last season with the new once because the partnership is not ready yet among the dominate new players that started the game.

They are not rooting out the ability of the team to produce the needed result now, but it going to take the new batch of players’ time to get adjusted to each other style of football.

Meanwhile, in the day’s last match, Gardnerville FC, another Division One outfit was defeated massively by premier side, Monrovia Club Breweries 3-1. Despite all the creative efforts by the 2011 LFA 2nd Division champs, the premier side still dominated most part of the match.

Goals from the legs of Slyvanus Nimely (youngest brother of Alex Nimely) and Blamo Nimely were enough to secured all three points for the Breweries Boys.

Gardnersville FC got her cancellation goal when she was down 2 goals to zero right before the first half and came from the break with hopes of equalizing but got discouraged after Slyvanus Nimely netted the third goal for Monrovia Brewerville.

Lassana Sesay of FC Fassell and Blamo Nimely of Club Breweries won the MVP Awards for their respective games and walked away with 700.00 each.

Before the match, the Executive Director of the National Elections Commission did the kickoff after the presentations of peace messages by all participating organizations including NEC and FC Fassell and a succesful parade from NEC headquarters in Sinkor to the ATS by  representatives of NEC, UNMIL, Youth Action International, Messengers Of Peace, Federation of Liberian Youth, Liberian National Student Union, Champion Designs Inc. et al, participating clubs as well as the media and football stakeholders, thru the principle streets of Monrovia.

All well-meaning Liberians of all walks of life are urged to be a part of this great process as we all strive to protect our fragile peace and letting peace prevail forever…
